History
The Company
Driving Miss Daisy commenced operation on January 1, 2002. It began with a single vehicle with the proprietor's intention to provide a meaningful and intrinsically rewarding service to seniors in the St. Albert, Alberta area. Due to overwhelming demand and interest in this service, the proprietor developed a franchise prospectus and began selling franchises.
The Company has registered its trademark in Canada.
Current Status
As of June 1, 2008 Daisy has 31 operational franchises throughout Alberta and BC. The proprietor has acted as a consultant for several interested parties throughout the world. As a result, there are similar senior-focused companies now operating in USA - Hawaii, Michigan, New York, Virgina and Colorado, as well as in Australia and Ireland. The Company is well positioned to sell many more franchises and will commence sales throughout Canada in the coming months.
Management
The management of the business consists of Bev Halisky, who is the founder and President of the Corporation. Bev began Daisy as a semi-retirement activity; however, it has grown into a significant, profitable business with a tremendous capability to expand. Bev has managed all aspects of the business. Since January 1, 2002 Bev has proven that her Corporation is not only an asset to society but also an essential service that should be offered Canada wide. In December 2005, Bev proudly received the Global's Woman of Vision Award. Her vision was simple: to help seniors and those with disabilities and that is what she strives for today.
Tara Youngson is the newly appointed Director of Daisy and manages the BC marketplace. Tara's involvement in the business commenced in July 2006, where she was instrumental in establishing operating authority in the Province of British Columbia. Tara's initial franchise sale blitz of the Lower Mainland of BC in November 2007 resulted in 1/3 of the territories sold. Sales continue to be strong in BC and Tara's focus now involves spearheading an expansion into eastern Canada. In September 2008, operating authority was received in the Province of Ontario and a strong focus is now on developing this marketplace.
Steve Houle has acted as a consultant to the business with respect to establishing the franchise prospectus and structural issues.
Products/Services
Alberta Daisy owners have provided assistance and accompaniment services to the seniors and those with disabilities in the greater Edmonton area since January 2002. BC Daisy owners commenced operation in April 2007. They utilize a fleet of PT Cruisers and HHRs to provide some of their services as these vehicles are exceptional for those that have limited mobility. These vehicles can accommodate walkers and also wheelchairs if the client can transfer.
Growth Opportunities
Daisy commenced selling franchises outside the Edmonton area in July 2006. Other opportunities have included the add-on of additional non-medical seniors support services such as cleaning, laundry, shopping, banking, escort for vacations and social functions.
The Company's slogan is: Accompanying you to a fuller life and aptly describes the relationship between the franchisee owners and their clients. As such, Daisy and its franchisees have experienced consistent growth in revenues due to repeat clientele.
